Top Tips for Better Braids

Published: 13 Sep, 2023

Braids are an all year round favourite, but never more so once the summer months start coming round. Before we know it festival season will be upon us and what better worry-free style is there than the braid?

Perfect for holidays, and great for kids. The braid is the perfect style for all lengths of hair. Even shorter styles can rock a braided fringe!

We asked Style Director Dawn, what her top tips were for the perfect braid.

Big hitters…

Dawn says: “For a soft fat volume loose braid on dry hair add volume spray, dry off, then wand and set in clips and allow to cool.”

“Add in a texture powder, we love OSiS+ Dust it, to puff out and braid the hair loosely. Finish with a tie band and go back and pull the sections a little to create more volume”

Tight Spot…

For tight boxer style braids, shampoo the hair, taking off any excess wetness. Comb through a soft setting spray – we recommend Redken One United. Divide the hair, this can be just one braid down the centre, or make a middle parting for two symmetrical braids. Secure with a clear band.

Accessorise

Now you have your beautifully braided hair, it’s up to you is you want to accessorise. Hair rings were a big trend last year, as was glitter. Apply to the parting for a really impactful look. For younger braiders, ribbons are super pretty and the more experienced braiders out there could try weaving these into the braid itself.
